As a former elected Orange County sheriff and state attorney in Orange and Osceola counties, I have unique insights into the upcoming 2020 election. I personally know both candidates who are running for Orange/Osceola County State Attorney; I hired both and each of them worked for me for several years. So, when I say that Deb Barra is the right and only person for the position, I speak with extensive firsthand knowledge.
I know what leadership requires and demands. Deb Barra is a natural and proven leader with a deep passion for helping victims of crime. Upon hiring her in my administration, she clearly and quickly stood out because of her sound judgment and work ethic. Seven years after I hired her, I assigned Deb Barra as Chief of the Sex Crimes Unit. She was the youngest manager on my team by at least a decade, and she quickly proved to be one of the finest.
As a manager, she did more than lead; she inspired her team to be the most knowledgeable and prepared attorneys in the courtroom. That’s because Deb Barra has a deep understanding that a prosecutor’s role is to serve as a public servant and for that reason, she has always prioritized justice over conviction rates. She is mindful, values diversion programs, believes in ongoing training for prosecutors, and she understands the importance of building community partnerships to innovate improvements to our criminal justice system.
Deb Barra has the experience, work ethic, insight and most importantly, the integrity to effectively lead the office of the State Attorney.
I have spent nearly 40 years helping to keep this community safe. In the 2020 election I will continue to do my part in protecting our community by voting for Deb Barra.
